If you’ve ever thought that vegans and vegetarians only eat things that taste as bland as drywall, then you’re not alone.
I used to think that way, and it’s only recently that I discovered there’s this amazing non meat eating world out there that many people don’t know exists.
Visiting Green Cuisine gives you the chance to taste so many of those non animal related dishes (as they are not only a vegetarian restaurant, but a vegan one as well) that you probably would never have thought to try.
It’s a great place for lunch or dinner and given it’s cafeteria style layout, you can be in and out quickly if you need to be.
The restaurant is set up as a buffet style and you pay for your meal based on the weight of your plate ($1.99 per 100 grams).
I must admit when I first went up to the buffet I didn’t recognize most of the dishes. Thankfully they were labeled so I had a bit of help in selecting what I would try.
The first thing I decided on was the “Coconut Curry Yam Soup” ($2.50 a bowl).
It was really creamy and very tasty. I also got some Focaccia bread with a little bit of vegan butter (a bit different, but wasn’t bad) to eat along with it and it was good too.
On the rest of my plate I put some “Cucumber Coleslaw”, some “Curried Kidney and Garbanzo Beans” and a baked “Samosa” topped with some apple tamarind chutney.
Maybe I shouldn’t have been, but I was pleasantly surprised with how good everything tasted, and left nothing on my plate.
The samosa was my favourite and was actually one of the best I’ve ever tasted. The chutney was excellent too. So good I could have eaten it as a dish of its own!
I didn’t get a drink with my meal but I have to tell you they have a very impressive looking drink menu. I think I counted 23 different types of homemade juices, as well as 9 different types of shakes.
I was going to order a milk but then saw the soy milk and remembered that of course cow’s milk is not vegan so they don’t offer it at Green Cuisine.
No problem, I just went with water instead (haven’t developed a taste for soy milk yet).
Though I was tempted to go re-visit the buffet for some more yummy dishes, I wanted to save enough room for dessert as there was a “Peanut Butter Blondie” ($1.90) with my name on it.
Yes, it turns out vegans eat dessert and apparently they make some amazing ones too! I’m not quite sure what they put into my peanut butter blondie delight, but it was quite just that, a delight.
I am such a dessert fanatic that I have to admit I really didn’t think that a vegan dessert could live up to my standards but this one totally did!
After visiting Green Cuisine I would definitely say that my mind has radically changed in terms of thinking that all vegan and vegetarian food is either yucky, or tasteless.
If you are a bit afraid to try this type of food, I would encourage you to stop by this restaurant as all the food that I tried tasted totally “normal” and was just as good as any other non-vegan restaurant in its class.
Whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan, or neither, I would encourage you to give Green Cuisine a try.
Not only are most of the dishes healthy, but they taste really good too!
