Irish Times Pub0
“Laughter is brightest where food is best.” This Irish Proverb, written on their website, definitely sums up what it’s like to visit Irish Times Pub in Victoria BC.
From it’s traditional Irish food and drink to it’s incredible fun and lively atmosphere, this pub oozes everything Irish, including authentic live Irish music, 7 nights a week.
Now I have to admit I might be a little biased when it comes to all things Irish as I do have a wee bit of Irish in me to begin with (thank you Grampa!), but I have to say I absolutely LOVE this pub!!!
I have been to Irish Times Pub for lunch, dinner, drinks and also for St. Paddy’s day the last 4 years in a row, and each time I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Even though I’m not a huge beer fan (I know, how non-Irish of me!), I love to sip red wine and eat their delicious food here.
My friend Mark on the other hand, is a huge beer fan and really loves the awesome draft beer selection they have on tap. They have six Irish beers including his favourites Guinness, Kilkenny, and Murphy’s Irish Stout.
I must not forget to mention that this great Irish pub also serves many of Mark’s local beer favourites which include beers from Phillips, Lighthouse and Vancouver Island Breweries.
For you Scotch and Whiskey fans out there, they also have an extensive drink list for you too, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to find something you’ll love.
As far as the food goes, over our many visits to Irish Times Pub, both Mark and I have developed our personal favourite dishes.
My favourite is the “Lamb Burger” ($13.99). I always get mine with the yam fries on the side but you can get salad or soup if you prefer (though personally I think if you’re going for the burger, you gotta go with the fries).
What makes this burger my special favourite is not just its great tasting grilled lamb patty, but the exceptionally yummy apple chutney and smoked garlic aioli that it comes dressed with.
It is a super combination and goes so well with the lamb that this burger ranks as one of my all time favourite burgers in Victoria.
It’s definitely the best lamb burger I’ve tasted so if you like lamb, I highly recommend you try this burger!
Mark’s favourite dish, the “Old School Corn Beef And Cabbage” ($14.99) comes from the traditional Irish fare part of the menu.
I call this a classic dish as it’s really what I consider to be a true Irish meal. I love it as much as Mark does, and somehow it tastes even better (if that’s possible) on St. Patrick’s day.
In fact, this past St. Paddy’s day I shared this dish with Mark and man, was it good! I love the yummy garlic mash it comes with and the corn beef was so heavenly that it just melted in my mouth.
I know I’ve never tasted better corn beef anywhere, and that’s the good honest Irish truth.
Even with it’s exceptional food and drinks, it is the atmosphere at Irish Times Pub that makes this place stand out above the rest. It’s not just the live Irish music they have playing here every night that makes the atmosphere so fun and lively. There’s a vibe here that you just don’t feel anywhere else.
And on St. Paddy’s day, well, this is THE place to be. Trust me. No one else puts on a show like Irish Times Pub does. If you don’t believe me you will just have to check it out for yourself!
