Milestones Grill & Bar – Victoria Harbour

There aren’t many things I enjoy doing more in Victoria than relaxing on a waterfront patio and sipping on a drink in the sunshine.

The main reason I like going to Milestones Grill & Barso much is because there isn’t a restaurant in Victoria that gets you closer to the water of the Inner Harbour than it does.

On my most recent visit I brought a girlfriend of mine Julia, who’d never been to this restaurant before (she just recently moved to Victoria).

I wanted to not only treat her to a good meal, but also to show off some of the beauty that this great city has to offer.

Milestones offers fantastic views not only of Victoria Inner Harbour, but also of the Empress Hotel and the Parliament buildings.

If it’s nice out, the best place to sit is outside on the patio, but their restaurant has ample room inside and you can get very nice views from in there too.

Julia and I arrived early in the evening and were fortunate enough to get seated at a prime corner table on the patio.

Every time I walk by Milestones on a sunny day, the patio is almost always packed so it’s great when you don’t have to wait for a seat.

Which reminds me, if you’re coming here and want to sit on the patio, they run it on a first come first serve basis so if you want to sit outside, you may have to wait a bit.

To avoid having to wait, you may want to make a reservation for their indoor seating, or try to time your visit before or after the busy lunch and supper rushes (this sometimes works).

Having scored such a great spot near the water, I was ready to order my favourite Milestone drink, the “Ultimate Bellini” ($8.49 for 3 oz).

If you like sweet drinks and you’ve never had a Bellini, I highly recommend you try one here.

Miletones makes theirs with white rum, peach liqueur and sparkling white wine, topped with sangria. Their regular Bellini is 2 ounces and sells for $6.99 but I like getting mine with an extra shot of Malibu Pineapple rum for $8.49.

If you really enjoy Bellinis, you might want to come on a Tuesday for “Bellini Tuesdays” and you will only pay $3.99 for the regular size and $5.99 for the Ultimate Bellini.

A few sips into my super yummy and refreshing drink, I ordered the “Milestones Famous Hot Spinach & Artichoke Dip” ($10.99) appetizer to share with Julia.

This appetizer was pretty good, though not the best spinach and artichoke dip I’ve had in Victoria.

I always like when I get baked or fried pita chips served with my dip as I think it adds more value and taste to the dish, however this is a personal preference so you may like the red chips they serve here better.

Butternut Squash Ravioli

Next we ordered our entrees. I decided to go with the “Butternut Squash Ravioli” ($16.99), and Julia ordered the “2 Piece Fish & Chips” (Halibut $15.99).

As you can see in the picture, my ravioli came with lots of toppings. In fact, there was so much tomato sauce, goat cheese, basil and spicy-glazed pecans that I could barely find my ravioli!

This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, as I did like all the flavours. It definitely made for a very colourful dish, though I wonder if I might have tasted more of the ravioli had it not been for all of the competing flavours.

Fish & Chips (Halibut)

On the other side of the table, Julia seemed quite content with her fish and chips, which came with fries and chili tartar sauce.

The menu offered a choice of fish, Halibut ($15.99) or Pacific Snapper ($12.49).

Julia liked that the Halibut was in a nice light beer batter and that the portion of fries was quite big too.

The only thing was the tartar sauce. It was a bit non-traditional in that it was a chili tartar sauce.

I think they should offer both regular and spicy versions of tartar sauce as not everyone may end up liking the Milestones version, and one usually expects the regular version on their plate.

Personally the tartar sauce is a big part of my fish and chip enjoyment factor so it’s very important that I like the sauce.

To finish off the night I recommended to Julia that we share a “Chocolate Ganache Torte”, as it has always been a favourite dessert of mine here.

It’s very rich, so you don’t need a lot to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The crust is delicious, and if you like dark chocolate and a cookie crumb crust, then you’ll love this dessert.

After a couple hours of enjoying our meals, the spectacular views, and some good girl talk, both Julia and I left very satisfied with our visit to Milestones.

Though the restaurant was quite busy, we didn’t have any problems with the service and both agreed that this place is definitely worth coming back to over and over again!
